S.E. Melbourne Phoenix

NBL

Founded in 2018, South East Melbourne Phoenix entered the National Basketball League (NBL) in season 2019-20 as the ninth franchise.

Their debut match, the first-ever ‘Throwdown’, set the scene for a healthy cross-town rivalry with Melbourne United that continues into the present season.

Phoenix won 91-88 in front of a sold-out crowd at John Cain Arena, where both teams play the majority of their home games.

The following week, a record NBL home-debut crowd witnessed the Phoenix take down the Brisbane Bullets and officially launch a new era in the Heartland of Australian basketball.
