In celebration of John Cain Arena’s 21st Birthday, Melbourne & Olympic Parks (M&OP) is pleased to share John Cain: Pioneering Our Precinct, a documentary which highlights the contribution of John Cain in shaping our precinct of today.
It’s hard to imagine our city without the M&OP precinct.
Home to hundreds of events and millions of visitors, it’s establishment can be firmly traced to the vision of one man – Mr. John Cain.
As Labor’s longest serving Premier, John Cain’s impact and legacy on our State is unquestionable.
A man known as a leading reformist and social justice advocate, his government was pioneering in shaping the State we know and love today.
His mission to establish the M&OP precinct, was a journey met with significant challenges (mostly from a political sense), which were only overcome thanks to his personal determination to make his vision a reality.
His victory enabled the development of the National Tennis Centre (now Rod Laver Arena), which ultimately secured Melbourne as host of one of only four Tennis Grand Slam events internationally, and paved the way for the wider site to flourish as Australia’s heart of sports and entertainment.
