South Korean indie outfit HYUKOH and Taipei-based jazz-influenced synth-pop band Sunset Rollercoaster are bringing their collaborative album AAA to life in Melbourne this November.
AAA is an eight-track album released in July 2024, following monthly sessions since May 2023 in Gapyeong, Seoul, and Jeju Island. It is the first album in four years for both HYUKOH and Sunset Rollercoaster. The collaboration blends HYUKOH’s rich ensemble and OHHYUK’s unique vocals with Sunset Rollercoaster’s melodic romance, capturing the essence of Taipei’s warm climate. Their poetic lyrics, admired by fans across cultures, highlight the bands’ artistry and distinct styles.
Don’t miss your opportunity to see HYUKOH and Sunset Rollercoaster perform each other’s back catalogues as an ensemble, plus tracks from the AAA album this November.
HYUKOH is a Korean indie rock band comprised of singer-songwriter OHHYUK, guitarist HYUNJAE, drummer INWOO, and bassist DONGGEON.
They have released five albums to date, from the debut EP [20] in 2014, to [22], [23], [24:How to find true love and happiness], and as of January 2020, [through love], the band’s latest album. The numerically titled albums reference the members’ age at the time of the recording and they appropriately reflect themes of youth and early adulthood resulting in an emotionally honest sound that is both bold and eclectic as well as subtle and melancholic.
Besides music, HYUKOH has been acknowledged as an iconic force in youth culture, bringing a unique style to their videos, performances, and fashion.
Sunset Rollercoaster are a romantic pop band from Taipei, made up of Tseng Kuo-Heng (vocals/guitar), Chen Hung-Li (bass), Lo Tsun-Lung (drums), Wang Shao-Hsuan (keyboard), and Huang Hao-Ting (Saxophone).
Their music immediately announces that the band comes from a humid, extremely relaxed island, synthesizing influences that have lapped up against Taiwan’s sub-tropical shores: soul, R&B, and rock from America, the neon-lit textures and jazz funk musicianship of Japanese city pop, and the earworm melodies and eternal melancholy of Chinese-language pop.
Sunset Rollercoaster have risen to become bona-fide stars, topping festival bills from China to Japan, and headlining tours in North America and Europe.
